What a place. For a short weeks right at the beginning of summer, two of the most photogenic flowers bloom together in vast fields often side by side. I really never ever seen something like this in person; fortunately, you can find in postcards, photos and paintings of sunflowers and lavender fields all over Provence, France. Believe or not the sunflower actually are native to the Americas. Sunflowers seeds were brought to Europe by Spaniards in the 16th century where sunflower oil became a widespread cooking ingredient.
Provence is famous for the beauty of its villages and landscapes, the warmth of its climate, the smell of the lavender and sunflower, the allure of its lifestyle a sunshine, and olive oil-based Mediterranean civilization that attracts us all. Lavender fields is a genus of 39 species of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae. Many members of the genus are widely cultivated in temperate climates as ornamental plants for garden and landscape use, and also commercially for extraction of essential oils. Popular destination for any photographer, the vast fields of purple little flowers and the beautiful yellow sunflower can make some stunning scenery.
